Pursuit of happiness

“The real happiness lies in making others happy”
How many of you want to be happy? Almost all of us, isn’t it? Everyone in one’s life is in search of happiness. Each of us do different sorts of things to achieve it. But my Team and I did one sort of thing last Saturday by visiting an orphanage to realize it. I am going to share you the experiences that helped us to realize happiness in the following three moments, shortly called FUN.

Let’s start with the First moment that starts with the Letter F, which stands for Feedback moment. We visited orphanage to feed the children over there with delicious food but we in turn got back more precious than that. When we served food for children, the smile that glittered on their face filled our hearts. That was like a cardiovascular exercise for the hearts that shed all the unwanted sorrows from our hearts. Feedback period fed us back food for hearts.

Let’s move on to the second moment that starts with the letter U, which stands for Unleashing moment. We went there to entertain those kids in the orphanage with lot of ideas. But ironically those kids regaled us with their fabulous dancing skills. Especially the dance number by two kids stalin and mamtha revealed all our 32 teeths outside without our conscience. That moment unleashed all our tension and stress that we had. If you are looking for stress buster here is one.

The Final Moment starts with letter N, which stands nostalgic moment. As kids everyone would like to paint and draw. Like everyone those kids where very eager to paint and draw. I remember one kid asked me, Anna (brother) when will you give the painting books and sketches? That remembered my childhood. Everyone in this world are longing for appreciations. When each and every kid painted one picture after another, they were asking each of us; how is it? After appreciating those kids for their excellent work, I came to know that what an appreciation can do in one’s life. I feel definitely childhood was the happiest moment in one’s life. That moment started with arts and ended in our hearts.

Finally, Fellow people I have shared my FUN filled experiences of the recent orphanage visit which implies true happiness in one’s life can be easily achieved, if we have courage and grace to do those sorts of things. If FUN is yours!!! Happiness is yours!!!

Trek To Happiness

"He who climbs the highest mountain laughs at all tragedies real or imaginary"-said famous German philosopher Frederich Nietzsche

How many of you like to travel?Almost everyone likes to travel. But I was so passionate about it.During my school days,my mom always struggles to wake me up in early mornings. But one day a school trip was planned. As per the plan Bus would pick me up at 5.00 early in the morning. So I set three Alarms one at 3.30 am,4.00 am and 4.30 am.With all set I slept calmly.Suddenly I woke up and shouted at my mother"mom it is time, wake up, pack up my things the bus will come".My mom switched on the lights and growled at me that the time was only 1'0 clock. Those experiences keep on tickling me whenever i think about travel.Today Friends I am going to share my experiences of the trekking trip which I had on coorg hills ranges in these following three periods shortly called FUN.

Lets start with First period in the trip F in FUN represents Freezing period.I started the trip with three of my friends from Bangalore in a hired cab.It was 12.30 am ,a freezy frosty night adds to it the driver refused to close the cab windows to get clear rear view. The spine chilled cold made us shiver all the way to coorg.Night journeys require a person to keep the driver awake.I took that job and sat next to driver. The driver didn't know any language other than kannada.None of us knew kannada. But I kept him awake with my own version of kannada. After some time I felt sleepy and asked one of my friend to take up that herculean task.Being a Brave man he took the challenge;believe me he slept within 5 minutes of the travel in turn putting all our lives in the firing line.Soon I replaced him.We reached a place called Tibetan golden temple at 4.00 early in the morning. That was a cold chilled morning and my body felt like an Ice on a snow-caped mountain.

With those Freezing experiences lets leap into second period U stands for Unusual period. After a freezing Night I had taken little nap in the early morning. As I slowly opened up my eyes,it was a cheering sunlight covered with fog.The sunlight felt refreshing, rejuvenating and relaxing. The mountains were with full of beautiful scenaries. An the scenaries kept on repeating in our eyes.At last we found that the driver has lost the way to spot and roaming around the same place. We somehow reached the destination. In order to start our trek earlier we decided to have a quicker breakfast. The chapatis that I brought were so helpful at that time. one of friend said that," it was an unforgettable breakfast in his life".The chapatis were as elastic as rubber. After finishing our breakfast we started our trek and were walking on a well laid road.At one point it had two ways.we acted as per the Robert frost words"Two roads diverged into woods,I took the road less traveled and that has made all the difference".But I didn't expect the difference would be a trembling one. we were lost in the forest. We could not get our way back. After some distance we found few local tribal plucking the seeds of the coffee plant.Alas we got our breath back. But at the same time we were afraid that they would scold us as we had entered their premises without their permission. But we persuaded them by clicking few snaps of them. The girls and women were so shy to photographs.

After those Unusual experience now lets trek into our third period N in FUN called Nerve-wracking period. The trip became really intriguing when we saw the summit of mountain from the midpoint of our journey. It urged us to attain the meridian. But the truth is there were few girls climbing downhill who had climbed early in the climbing. That was like a tight slap for us.If they could do why couldn't we?And we started walking fast towards the peak.Ironically they were well prepared but we had just a packet of biscuit and water bottle of size as smaller as a cocktail glass. To add to our dismay there were no water in the mountain stream-lets.We we fully exhausted, dehydrated and almost crucified.we had covered 75% of the distance and we were drained to core. The remaining 25% was the toughest part in the trek.At that point two of friends stepped back.one more friend and I didn't give up.We continued our quest towards the crest.Dredging towards the top and traveling upwards gave us terrific tingling sensation. This made us tremendous. When we reached the hilltop,we almost saw paradise.

Friends I have shared my FUN filled Freezing,Unusual and Nerve wracking experiences on the coorg hill ranges. Finally I would like to quote few verses from the Poem Mountain written by Kathleen delicato

Looking up into the heights, the sky blue,
I begin my ascent of the mountain.
With my first step, steady, honest and true,
My heart's filled with the goal I shall attain.

Though as I reach the higher paths I find
Determination begins to waver.
The rocks and icy winds are so unkind
And erode the courage I did savor.

T'would be easy to give up and go back,
Return to my safe and comforting home.
Then my inner voice cries, "Attack, attack!"
So I grit my teeth and push myself on.

When I reach the summit, see all I've gained,
Well worth all the trials, well worth all the pain.

Networking key to better society

It took 90 years for the people of India to liberate India, but If people would not have had good network with each other that transcended caste, creed, religion;Independence would have become an everlasting struggle.Yes friends, Networking among people and great leaders at those times have given us this eternal freedom.some of my friends asked networking ,what is it going to do our society?already we have better society? In what ways is it going to make society a better one?Today we will understand and make them understand that value of networking in building a better society in these following three ways shortly abbreviated as PWD.
So the First way P stands for peaceful society. Are we living in a society as same as the one we lived at independence times? No,Then what kind of society we live in?A society full of crisis, fights, violence all over the world.what is happening in Australia and Mumbai?Racial crisis disturbing normal life of the people.People live who live one parts of the world don't care about the people in the other parts of the world.People are happy with the things they get?We live in better society, isn't?In my boyhood,I lived in a building which had many families. Both my father and mother worked,so they could not give me enough time for me.But I didn't people lovesick because I got the much needed care from my neighborhood families.Even Parents were not anxious about me because they knew that I will be safe with them. Those are good old days.Nowadays what kind of neighborhood we have?People tend to talk each other only during emergencies.Networking with neighborhood people will bring back the good old serene days.
Lets move on to second way W stands for Wisdom or wealthier society.can a society be better one if it has only some scholars where remaining people are dumbs? No,A society can be called better only when all of it members are wisemen.People communication and connection will bring about this much needed wisdom among a society. One can understand one's true potential only by interacting with the other people. For example There is people Network which is striving hard to develop communication and leadership skills among its fraternity.Yes friends toastmasters has been giving the knowledge to its members all these years and will continue to do so.Only Because of toastmaster I am able to identify my capabilities be it in public speaking and in achieving my career goals. Not only Toastmaster there are so many social networking sites and technical forums doing their jobs.Networking with people has given opportunity to identify my potential and has enlightened me.What is missing here?We fail to take up these ways?We know knowledge is wealth. Therefore Network with people, and connect with people to live in a wealthier society.
Last and Final Way D stands for Developed society without social problems. Can a society be better one with 50% literacy rate,40% employed people,30% wealthier people? No,The society will be better only only if it achieves 100% in every thing. To achieve that emphatize with fellow people.Gandhiji said "Best way to find yourself is to lose yourself in the service of the others".Jockin Aruputham was recently awarded as the RD Asian of the year,.who dwells in the slums of the Mumbai for the upliftment of the poor.In his interivew with the magazine Reader digest,he said that the Network he had with people all over the world has helped him to work for the fellow people.Karthin Raman who is a social activist said that NGO has given the opportunity to enter people lives, hear their stories and bring a pinnacle in their society. Not only above two people there are so many people using the Network agents such as NGO etc to connect with fellow people for a better society.Bond with the Fellow people to eradicate social problems such as poverty, unemployment, illiteracy etc.Networking has shown its key value in building our society a better one.

Finally "Empathize and Empower" is the last term theme in Bangalore toastmaster club.I think we will do justice for the above line.So Friends to Live in a society with tranquility,Wealth, development with social problems,Network with people, connect with people, mingle with fellow people. Will you?

Bicycle Commute-The Need of the Hour

"If you are worried about falling off the bike ,you'd never get on"-said cycling Legend Lance Edward Armstrong

Friends I could still remember the days that learned to ride bicycle, when my brother let go off the back of the bicycle ,I straightaway plunged the bicycle into a famous canal in my area and even sparing a old lady on the way.But When I had the control over bicycle,I got a sense of complete freedom, great achievement, accomplishment and and a feeling of promotion into big kids. These are some of my memorable moments with bicycle. But Why Bicycle is the need of the hour? For this I am going to give you three reasons that proves bicycle is the need of the hour and they are shortly abbreviated as GET.

Lets begin with First reason ie G in the GET means Good health.
I thought about it when I was riding my bike-said Albert Einstein on his theory of relativity.Yes friends I do have similar experiences with my bicycle.During campus recruitment I couldn't clear the interviews of first three companies, consequently I was totally depressed and in the bottom of the world.I didn't want to attend any other interviews. But the ride which I took day before the fourth interview lifted me up,relieved me from depression and clear the interview so easily. This effect is proved by one of the researches also and it states that the working conditions of cycling activates the neurotransmitters such as serotonin, epinephrine and endorphin which battles the sadness and stress. It gives the rider the knowledge of being well and relieves him from the pain.We have other obvious health benefits from cycling.what are those. Those are
1.Reduced risk of coronary heart diseases
2.Reduces overweight and obesity
3.It is the prescribed medication by doctors for diabetes patients

We have seen the first reason, lets move on the next reason.ie E in GET stands for Environmental effect. What is the cost of rice today?what is the cost of vegetables?whats is the cost of thur dhall ?It is all high, not reachable by normal person.why is the increase on cost of basic food materials?
The so called Environmental Effect and climatic change which actually reduced the productivity of the land. Moreover An international level conference is to be conducted on DEC 7 in Copenhagen with more than 143 countries participating in it to discuss how to control this climatic change. However by taking this little step of commuting work or school through cycle will give a positive impact on this climatic change.By reducing carbon di oxide emission ,the cycle can be declared as coolant of global warming. For example consider this,If everyone who lives within 8km of their workplace where to commute using bicycle at least one day in a week could save million tons of global warming pollution in an year which is equivalent to taking millions of cars off the road.

We have seen two reasons and last reason T in GET stands for Time benefit. To illustrate this, we are going to have two conversation- one happening between wife and husband and another between mother and son.First one Wife :calls up"Darling can you come home early I miss you so much"
Husband:No honey I am caught up in traffic jam,I cant come early. The second conversation Mother:son cant look after your health properly?you are so weak.
Son:No mom,I don't have time to look after those things and I am caught in this traffic jam, talk to u later.what was happening? This is the situation that is happening to me ,you and everyone of us today. It happens at every part of the world. Why?Because of traffic congestion.More importantly I could big luxurious cars traveling with only one passengers ,a major contributor to this congestion.Because of this , even the Emergency vehicles such as Fire Engine,Ambulance are not able to reach the destination in time.Friends Bicycle commute will definitely save your time that you spent on the roads and also on the fitness clubs.Few of my friends argued that motor bikes are faster than bicycle, for those who believe in that I am going to highlight the test drive carried out by a daily Bangalore mirror. It is done on important roads of the Bangalore, let me give the results of one of the roads.Hosur Road-Dairy circle to Madivala check post ,Distance :1.5kms,Test drive started at:5.50 pm:Time taken by respective vehicles are given below
Cycle:7:00 minutes
Car:12:05 minutes
Motor Bike:10:45 minutes
Walk:18:23 minutes
so the results are so obvious that the bicycle commute saves your time.

Finally I could like to quote Mahatma Gandhi 's words
"Be the change you want to see"
So If want to see the change in your health, environment and time and need to get G-Good Health and E-Environmental Benefit and T-Time Benefit what we need to do?
"GO GET YOUR BICYCLES NOW"

My Icebreaker Speech

Hi,
This is my First blog and I am going to share my Icebreaker speech which tells something about me in this blog
What is a Peace? What does Peace mean?It is a state where we are free of anxieties, worries and outside problems. What does it give us?It gives us happiness.Where do we feel peace? In Temple,or may be with friends in beach, park,or may be in home with our family. But there is a city which is so peaceful will give us much needed happiness.can you guess which city is that?
It is peaceful Pondicherry.

Yes Fellow Toastmaster and distinguished guests, I was born in the peaceful city Pondicherry on March 6 1985. I am the second and last son to my parents. My father is a hardworking Flower Merchant and my mother, a dedicated worker for women and child welfare department.

I had done my schooling in one of the expensive schools in my city, even though my family was a middle class one. But I realized this fact only at my final sage of schooling. All through my school days, I had been a notorious student. When I was in 4th std, my teacher was trying to beat me for the mistake I did. I caught my teacher’s hand and replied, don’t ever try this again. I was so ignorant didnt know it was big mistake.which even claimed to dismiss me from my school but my mother requested to take me back to the school.

I was always playful kid during my school days, with a little seriousness to studies. The seriousness always came exactly before the exams. I had cleared all my exams on the spur of the moment, with an enormous urge from my parents. But I somehow love mathematics, even if I fail in all other subject I manage to score centum in math.I love to play cricket, even 24X7 hours.Apart from Cricket, I love listening music and I am a great fan of AR Rahman. The Hindustani music often mesmerizes me. I was obsessed to Hindustani music after listening music albums of Prem Joshua.

I am fond of indulging in adventurous activities. We had a coconut tree in between my house and neighboring one. I used the coconut tree branches to swing from my house terrace to the neighboring one like a monkey. One day the branch gave away from the tree when I was swinging. I fell in between the two houses into a bathroom breaking away its terracotta roof. My head was bleeding heavily, but I didn’t cry. Do you know why? Because the pain seemed less to me compared to my mother’s reaction. My mother’s frightening look and sounds from her biting teeth, no one would dare to face her when she is angry.

I have mind refreshing connection with cycling. Whenever I was disturbed, confused, demotivated, and sad I used to go for a ride in my bicycle. Didn’t know where I am heading just pedaling through the roads. After a ride, I always felt refreshed, motivated, enlightened. Even Now I use my bicycle to commute office.

I was so playful, careless until I heard about my father’s Life. How he struggled to improve his family condition single handedly after his father’s death when he was 10 year old. His Life inspired me a lot; I was also wanted to do something to improve my family condition. And I wanted to give my father rest in his profession and started helping in flower garland business. But my father didn’t want me to suffer like him; he wanted me to become a doctor. I tried hard to bag admission in government medical colleges but I got only in private colleges which will still add the debits to the existing one. I didn’t want to join it. Then I took engineering, which I felt will get me a job soon after my course completion. I was an average student in my engineering. But I am very sure that I will get a software job. I got my first offer from HCL TECHNOLOGIES LTD even before the course completion.

In my college days, I was part of a group called MISSION SUDARSH-aspirant to innovate new technical product. Only after joining the group, I had the awareness about vision, goal. We all wanted to start a technical product company, a global one. But we failed to achieve our goals due to lack of skills, Family financial condition. So every one joined a software company which we thought will relieve everyone from financial crisis and will give us the lacking skills a technical one as well as professional. But we are sure will join soon to achieve our goal.

After working in this team, I love to take up management role. A good buiding needs a good foundation and I thought the MBA course will be a good foundation for management building. I wanted to be an accomplished manager. A good communicator need not be manager, but a good manager needs to be a good communicator. My Communication is one of the factors which demotivates me in many situations. I wanted to improve it desperately, came to know about Toastmasters’ movement through my friend Deepak. I attended my first meeting in Chennai as a guest; at the end of the meeting I can feel a drastic increase in my confidence level. I am here to improve communication skills and leadership skills, and I am sure Bangalore toastmasters will help me in achieving my goals.

Finally Iwould like to quote some part of Steve Jobs speech in stanford University
"Your time is limited, so don't waste it living someone else's life. Don't be trapped by dogma — which is living with the results of other people's thinking. Don't let the noise of others' opinions drown out your own inner voice. And most important, have the courage to follow your heart and intuition. They somehow already know what you truly want to become. Everything else is secondary."
